Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Tissue Expansion
A tissue expansion is a surgical procedure where a balloon-like device (called an expander) is inserted under the skin. The expander is then slowly filled with liquid to stretch and expand the skin over time. As the skin is stretched, the area begins to grow extra skin. This extra skin can be used to repair nearby lost or damaged skin.
