Stroke Rehabilitation

The Stroke Rehabilitation program involves all aspects of care which will promote functional recovery in all stages of stroke, from the ICU through the outpatient setting. The Stroke Rehabilitation program makes recommendations on the acute floors of the hospital and provides physical, occupational and speech therapy. State of the art equipment and therapeutic techniques, such as weight-supported treadmill training, functional electric stimulation, and vital stimulation for swallowing are provided in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit and outpatient clinics. Spasticity is managed throughout the continuum of care and expert attention is given to the complications that often arise after stroke. Secondary revention (prevention of another stroke) is addressed, and patients and families receive education and support and are made aware of community resources. After stroke patients are discharged to the community, they are followed by Dr. Edgley in the outpatient stroke clinic.
