Living Well Workshop - Frequently Asked Questions

If you or someone you love has a chronic illness, chances are you are aware that many symptoms can last for years. Nearly 100 million Americans suffer from chronic conditions, such as asthma, arthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, headaches, depression, and kidney disease. While some illnesses may not be disabling, others can cause significant limitations and affect a person’s ability to perform daily activities. As there is often no cure, teaching people to manage the symptoms of an illness is key to helping them live fuller, happier lives.

What does the workshop cover?

The workshop focuses on self-care; learning new coping strategies for dealing with frustration, fatigue, depression, and pain; and sharing experiences with other group members. Classes are highly participative where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. The workshop is not meant to replace or conflict with existing treatment, but enhances it and increases the treatment’s effectiveness.

Participants learn how to:

  • Manage medications
  • Communicate effectively
  • Deal with fatigue and frustration
  • Manage depression
  • Start an exercise program
  • Use problem solving skills
  • Eat well
  • Manage stress
  • Relax to assist with pain management
