Grief and the Holidays: Turning Loss Into Meaning
Caring Connections Event Offers Suggestions for Managing Loss During the Holidays
Oct 8, 2008 3:00 PM
Caring Connections: A Hope and Comfort in Grief Program will hold its annual Grief and the Holidays event Tuesday, November 18, 2008 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. The event will be held in Alumni Hall at the Spencer F. and Cleone P. Eccles Health Sciences Education Building located at 26 South 2000 East on the University of Utah campus. Grief and the Holidays is an opportunity for those who have lost a friend or family member to gather suggestions for navigating the holiday season while keeping the memories of their loved one alive.
"The holiday season can be a particularly difficult time for someone who has experienced the death of a family member or friend," said Kathie Supiano, MS, LCSW, director of Caring Connections. "With the Grief and the Holidays observance we seek to provide a supportive venue where individuals can honor their loved ones, reflect on their loss and look ahead."
The theme for this year’s Grief in the Holidays is Turning Loss Into Meaning. Karen Hale, communications director for the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office will share personal recollections and perspective on how grief affects our experience of the winter holidays. Award-winning author and poet Emma Lou Thayne will give a reading and harpist Melanie Hunt will perform throughout the evening.
Grief and the Holidays: Turning Loss Into Meaning is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the program.
