Caring Connections to Host Annual Grief and the Holidays Event
Oct 27, 2009 3:00 PM
Caring Connections: A Hope and Comfort in Grief Program will hold its annual Grief and the Holidays event Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall at the Spencer F. and Cleone P. Eccles Health Sciences Education Building located at 26 South 2000 East on the University of Utah campus. Grief and the Holidays is an opportunity for individuals who have lost a friend or family member to gather suggestions for managing the holiday season while keeping the memory of their loved one alive.
“For many individuals, the holiday season brings celebration and joy. But for someone who has experienced the death of a family member or friend it can be a particularly difficult time,” says Kathie Supiano, MS, LCSW, director of Caring Connections. “With the Grief and the Holidays observance we offer a supportive venue where individuals can honor their loved ones, reflect on their loss and look ahead.”
During the program Norma Matheson, former Utah first lady and widow of the late Scott Matheson, will share perspective on managing the holidays after the loss of a spouse. Author Jean Reagan will give a reading from her book Always my Brother and non-profit performing arts organization Heart & Soul will provide the evening’s music.
Grief and the Holidays: Turning Loss Into Meaning is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the program.
