(Salt Lake City) –The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) has awarded Erin R. Fox, Pharm.D., its 2012 Award of Excellence.
Fox is the director of the University of Utah Health Care’s Drug Information Service and an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacotherapy. During the past year, Fox has focused on the issue of drug shortages, bringing it to the attention of legislators and the public. Her dedication and hard work has aided the ASHP Drug Shortages Resource Center in keeping up with drugs in short supply and finding alternative solutions. Not only has she made an impact locally, but she has created a national presence, participating in numerous television and radio interviews.
Each year the ASHP recognizes an individual whose recent work has enhanced the ability to serve patients and honors them with the Award of Excellence. Fox has been a key player in resolving the problems of drug shortages and has built relationships with patients by letting them know how they can be involved on a political level.
ASHP is the national professional organization whose nearly 40,000 members include pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who provide patient care services in acute and ambulatory settings, including hospitals, health systems, and clinics, as well as pharmacy students. For 70 years, the Society has been on the forefront of efforts to improve medication use and enhance patient safety.
