Health and Wellness for Her

What makes a healthy, whole woman inside and out? The University of Utah Center of Excellence in Women's Health believes a woman's total health is determined not only by how often she exercises, the food she eats, or her regular doctor visits. In fact, it's much more.
To celebrate this year's National Women's Health Week in May, The Center of Excellence hosted a workshop at the Salt Lake City Public Library focusing on The 7 Domains of Women's Health. The goal is to educate women in the community that overall wellbeing is not just determined by physical health, but also emotional, social and cultural, spiritual, financial, intellectual, and environmental factors. Even more significant, it's important for women to understand that all seven domains are connected and related to each other in some way.
"The other domains of our health, aside from physical health, directly correlate with how well we do with illness and with wellness," says Catherine Wheeler, M.D., assistant clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the U of U School of Medicine. "It's kind of like being out of balance. If you don't have every one of these areas in balance, it impacts the other areas.
