Angiography: The imaging of blood vessels for diagnosis of abnormalities with the use of an injected contrast media.
Balloon Angioplasty/Stent: The opening of narrow or blocked blood vessels using a balloon. May include placement of a stent, (metal tubular scaffolding to hold open a vessel).
Catheter insertions: The insertion of a catheter in a large vein--usually the jugular. Catheters then deliver chemotherapy drugs, nutritional support, bone-marrow transplantation and hemodialysis.
Chemo-embolization: The use of a catheter to deliver cancer treatment directly to a tumor through its blood supply.
Embolization: The placement of a substance through a catheter into a blood vessel to stop bleeding.
Gastrostomy tubes: The insertion of a feeding tube directly into the stomach. Used if a patient is unable to take food by mouth.
IVC Filter: The placement of a metallic filter into the inferior vena cava. Filters catch clots to prevent them from traveling to the lungs.
