The Rehabilitation Nurse

Your Rehabilitation Nurse is a specialist in rehabilitation. Your rehabilitation nurse is an essential part of the rehabilitation team and your treatment program. Not only will they work with your physician to ensure you are medically stable but they will work with your therapists to teach you to become maximally independent and to adapt to an altered lifestyle. Night and day, they provide a therapeutic environment for you and your families' education and preparation for discharge to home.

Your rehabilitation staff nurse designs and implements treatment strategies that are based on scientific nursing theory related to self-care and that promote physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health.

Your rehabilitation nurse is a teacher, a care giver, a collaborator and a client advocate. They possess the specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care for people with physical disability and chronic illness. They will coordinate the education and care you will need in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to prepare you and your family for a successful discharge.
