Two Utah Athletes Participate in 2008 Paralympic Games

For those not quite ready to let go of that Olympic spirit continuing from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, there is good news!  The opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games is set to unfold September 6th and the action of the games will continue through September 17th.  This years’ broadcast will have much more in depth coverage because Universal Sports is presenting the first ever multiplatform broadcast of the 2008 Paralympic Games in the U.S.  This means that all the thrilling Paralympic action you may not have had access to before, will be available for your viewing online at UniversalSports.com, as well as on the Universal Sports digital cable channel!

These Games are an elite sporting event, which provide an opportunity for athletes with different disabilities from around the world to compete in the sports at which they have become champions.  This year two athletes from Utah, who were also members of the 2004 U.S. Paralympic team, are competing in Beijing.

Marlon Shirley, from Cache Valley, now currently training in California, is considered the fastest amputee in the world and will be competing in the 100 meter track and field event.  And Chris Dodds, also from Cache Valley, is a member of the U.S. Goalball team and aided the 2004 U.S. team in winning the bronze medal in Athens.

Just like the Olympic Games, the Paralympics demonstrate the accomplishments of these athletes in their sport, not their disabilities.
