Amputee Clinic Focus

The University of Utah Amputee Clinic is based at the University of Utah Hospital and is designed to provide comprehensive, state-of-the art care to adults with arm or leg amputations. The clinic provides consultation services before an amputation whenever possible. Individuals are seen as outpatients in the clinic by a team of specialized individuals. This team of professionals may include: Surgeon, Rehabilitation Physician, Physical Therapist, Nurse, Prosthetist, Social Worker, and Psychologist.

Amputee Clinic Services

  • Pain management including residual limb pain and phantom pain
  • Prescription of the appropriate prosthesis.
  • Instruction and training in prosthetic fitting.
  • Instruction and training in walking with a prosthesis
  • Skin care and management
  • Referral to therapy or other additional services
  • Life care planning
  • Disability rating
