Do you have Lymphedema?
What is Lymphedema?
Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid in tissues that causes swelling. Lymphedema occurs as a result of lymphatic vessels that are removed, damaged or blocked. If left untreated lymphedema will get progressively worse and can lead to infections and severe skin changes.
What are the Symptoms of Lymphedema?
Lymphedema can develop in any part of the body or limb(s). Watch for the following signs:
- Persistent swelling, usually in one arm or leg
- A full sensation in the limb
- A tight feeling in the skin
- Decreased flexibility in the hand, wrist or ankle
- Difficulty fitting into clothing or jewelry in one specific area
What Should I Do If I Have Any of These Symptoms?
Seek the advice of your doctor, and ask if a referral for lymphedema therapy is appropriate.
