Resource Nursing

About Us

Resource Nursing is a unit within Patient Care Services at University of Utah Health Care. The purpose of Resource Nursing is to provide quality staff to all Patient Care Units to assist with patient care during times of high census, high acuity, and/or low individual unit staff availability.

There are five "clusters" in Patient Care Services that Resource staff work within. It is highly recommended that nurses select at least two clusters to work in, and HCA’s are expected to work in all clusters (except Outpatient). The clusters are as follows:

Medical/Surgical

2 Rehab Rehabilitation
3 North Neurology, Neurosurgery
4 North Cardiology, Telemetry, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Medicine
5 Medicine Internal Medicine
BMT Bone Marrow Transplant
6 North Orthopedics, General Surgery
6 South General Surgery and Medicine
HCH 4 Hematology / Oncology
HCH 5 Surgical Oncology

Intensive Care

SICU Surgical Intensive Care
NCC Neuro Critical Care
PACU Post Anesthesia Care Unit (Officially part of Surgical Services, not ICU)
MICU Medical Intensive Care
BTICU Burn Trauma Intensive Care
IMC Intermediate Care Unit
HCH SCU Oncology Special Care Unit (Not officially part of any cluster)

Women's and Children's

2 East Special Care Unit
2 North Antepartum, Postpartum, Well Baby and Intermediate Care Nursery
NBICU Newborn Intensive Care
