Injury Prevention
In the United States and in Utah, trauma is the leading cause of death in persons 1-44 years of age. More Americans are killed by injuries than atherosclerosis and cancer combined. Forty-five to fifty thousand individuals are killed each year as a result of injury. Utahns are not immune to injury. Trauma is also the leading cause of death in Utah in individuals ages 1-44. Thirteen hundred Utahns die every years as a result of their injuries.
Trauma is a preventable disease. University Health Care is dedicated to providing injury prevention education to prevent injuries before they occur by educating the general public, and our employees, and their families. Traumatic injuries can be avoided by providing continuing education and by encouraging and supporting changes in behavior among all age groups.
