Staying Off Substances
An Intensive Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program for Adolescents
The S.O.S. Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adolescents is a ten-week (40 session), after school recovery resource for adolescents with identified drug & alcohol problems. S.O.S. meets Monday through Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 pm. Thursday evenings are dedicated to multi-family group therapy from 5:00-8:00pm. The program is designed to allow adolescents to continue with their school schedule. Participants benefit from group therapy, life-skill and recovery psychoeduation, experiential therapies including our Ropes course, gender specific groups and family therapy interventions. Sensitivity to gender differences allows our female and male therapists to specially tailor treatment for each individual. Parent participation in treatment is required to maximize the therapeutic gains for the adolescent.
At the conclusion of ten weeks of treatment, a minimum of six months of aftercare support is provided. Aftercare includes a weekly meeting as well as attendance to a 12-step meeting. These meetings are available on location as a convenient and supportive resource. Following the formal six-month aftercare period, attendance is on a voluntary basis.
We believe in the inherent value of each young person’s motivation to feel better about them self and to seek fulfilling life experiences. S.O.S. provides a positive environment for teens using a seven-component resiliency model to facilitate personal strengths already present in each individual and to consolidate gains made within treatment. Resiliency traits are measurable skills known to be effective in the treatment of chemical addiction.
Our multi-disciplinary treatment team emphasizes community contact with probation, mental health providers, schools, physicians and clergy to help engage the adolescent within a collaborative support system. The S.O.S. program is under the direction of a Board Eligible/Certified Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist. Clinical treatment is provided by licensed professionals including clinical social workers and a recreational therapist. An on-call counselor is available to assist with urgent situations which may occur outside of the regularly scheduled treatment hours.
Criteria for admission include being medically clear and detoxified from substances. Both the adolescent and family must agree to have the adolescent participate in random urinalysis. Commitments to all scheduled therapeutic sessions for the 10 week duration and aftercare component are essential.
At the time of initial evaluation, a Neuropsychiatric Institute Financial Counselor will explain cost and payment options, and determine whether available insurance will fund treatment.
