Appointments & Surgeries

John A. Moran Eye Center clinics are open for all appointments and surgeries. Please call 801-581-2352 and we will work with you to determine whether a telehealth visit, an in-person visit, or postponing your appointment is most appropriate depending on your care need and your risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

Coronavirus Safety Measures

Following guidelines from the CDC and Utah Department of Health, University of Utah Health is taking proactive measures in our hospitals, clinics, and community health centers to better protect patients, those supporting patients, providers, and staff from the potential spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

We are taking the following measures to ensure Moran clinics and operating rooms maintain the highest levels of safety:

  • Requiring face masks for everyone entering the Moran Eye Center. If you do not have a mask or face covering, one will be provided for you. If you refuse to wear a face-covering for the protection of you and others, you will be denied entry. Bandanas, buffs, and neck gaiters are not considered adequate face coverings. Providers and staff will be masked and practice careful hand hygiene.

  • Checking body temperature and performing wellness checks as patients, staff, and doctors enter the building. Anyone with a fever or symptoms will be asked to return at least 72 hours after they are symptom-free. This is for your safety, as well as the safety of our caregivers.

  • Distributing hand sanitizer.

  • Practicing physical distancing of 6 feet in waiting rooms, the lobby, and throughout the building. Please do not arrive earlier than your scheduled appointment time.

  • Cleaning chairs, tables, and equipment after each patient exits a room. Waiting areas and common items such as door handles will be cleaned regularly.

Visitor Policy

One visitor may accompany a patient to an appointment if the patient feels it is necessary. The visitor must be free of COVID-related symptoms and wear a mask during the entire visit. Waiting areas must still conform to physical distancing requirements.

All other visitors will be asked to wait in their vehicles, outside the building, or in designated areas.

Pre-Surgery COVID-19 Testing

Moran requires all patients to undergo COVID-19 testing before surgery. Patients who test positive for the virus will be rescheduled. Emergency surgeries for COVID-19 positive patients will be performed at University Hospital.

Surgical patients at Moran's University, Midvalley, Primary Children’s, and Riverton locations will be scheduled for testing in drive-up lanes in the parking garage (Level P1) at the campus location at 65 Mario Capecchi Drive, Salt Lake City.

Patients scheduled for surgery at Moran's South Jordan, Redwood, Stansbury, and Farmington clinics can access testing at these community locations.

No symptomatic patients will be tested at Moran, and the service is not open to the public.

What to Expect at Your Next Appointment

Because the incidence of COVID-19 can change rapidly, we may have to adjust our policies at Moran on very short notice. Please understand this is all part of keeping you as safe as possible. View the video below for more information on what you can expect at your next visit.

It is our privilege to continue to provide hope, understanding, and treatment to anyone with a blinding condition, eye disease, or visual impairment. We are committed to your health and safety, and thank you for trusting the Moran Eye Center with your vision care needs.
