Coronavirus Safety Measures

Following guidelines from the CDC and Utah Department of Health, University of Utah Health is taking proactive measures in our hospitals, clinics, and community health centers to better protect patients, those supporting patients, providers, and staff from the potential spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

We are taking the following measures to ensure Moran clinics and operating rooms maintain the highest levels of safety:

  • Requiring facemasks for everyone entering the Moran Eye Center. Regardless of current state, county or city guidelines, all patients, companions, and staff must continue wearing an approved facemask (a well-secured paper or cloth mask that covers the mouth and nose) when entering any University of Utah Health facility (including community clinics). Facemasks must be worn at all times while inside these facilities. Bandanas, buffs, and neck gaiters are not considered adequate face coverings. If you do not have a facemask, one will be provided for you. If you refuse to wear a face-covering for the protection of you and others, you will be denied entry. Providers and staff will be masked and practice careful hand hygiene.

  • Providing hand sanitizer.

  • Practicing physical distancing of 6 feet in waiting rooms, the lobby, and throughout the building. Please do not arrive earlier than your scheduled appointment time.

  • Cleaning chairs, tables, and equipment after each patient exits a room. Waiting areas and common items such as door handles will be cleaned regularly.

Visitor Policy

One visitor may accompany a patient to an appointment if the patient feels it is necessary. The visitor must be free of COVID-related symptoms and wear a mask during the entire visit. Waiting areas must still conform to physical distancing requirements.

All other visitors will be asked to wait in their vehicles, outside the building, or in designated areas.

Pre-Surgery COVID-19 Testing

Moran requires all patients to undergo COVID-19 testing before surgery. Patients who test positive for the virus will be rescheduled. Emergency surgeries for COVID-19 positive patients will be performed at University Hospital.

Surgical patients at Moran's University, Midvalley, Primary Children’s, and Riverton locations will be scheduled for testing in drive-up lanes in the parking garage (Level P2) at the campus location at 65 Mario Capecchi Drive, Salt Lake City.

Patients scheduled for surgery at Moran's South Jordan, Redwood, Stansbury, and Farmington clinics can access testing at these community locations.

No symptomatic patients will be tested at Moran, and the service is not open to the public.

What to Expect at Your Next Appointment

Because the incidence of COVID-19 can change rapidly, we may have to adjust our policies at Moran on very short notice. Please understand this is all part of keeping you as safe as possible. View the video below for more information on what you can expect at your next visit.

It is our privilege to continue to provide hope, understanding, and treatment to anyone with a blinding condition, eye disease, or visual impairment. We are committed to your health and safety, and thank you for trusting the Moran Eye Center with your vision care needs.
