Surgical Treatment Options
There are four surgical treatment options that we offer. These include the following:
- Vasovasotomy & epididymovasostomy
- Microsurgical testicular sperm extraction (TESE) & TESE
A vasectomy is a very common, simple outpatient form of surgical sterilization. This procedure can be performed at any of our clinic locations, although we are able to facilitate the most flexible patient experience at the South Jordan location. This procedure involves an in-office procedure that takes about ten minutes. We use local anesthesia to numb the skin and then perform a nerve block of each of the spermatic cords so that our patients do not feel any pain during the procedure. The block will remove pain but men may still feel pressure during the operation. We are also happy to provide a very mild sedative prior to the procedure.
The entire procedure will be performed through a 4–5 millimeter incision in the midline of the scrotum. Tissue glue is used to close the wound and ice may be applied 20 minutes out of every hour to aid with post-operative pain control. We will also prescribe a mild analgesic or pain-killer. It is important to remember that you are not sterile until you have demonstrated either azoospermia or <100,000 motile non-motile sperm on at least one semen analysis after your procedure.
