Simple Summary

Our objectives of this study are to use the results of our preliminary study (IRB_00081655), identifying familial clustering in the etiologies and complications of total joint arthroplasty (TJA), to further evaluate genetic factors that may be linked with periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) following TJA.

Inclusion Criteria

We estimate 100 genotyped individuals (ages 18-100) from the families/pedigrees identified in the prior study (IRB_00081655) will be needed for statistical analysis. In that study, we identified 10 families/pedigrees of interest as they demonstrated a high-risk for PJI after controlling for other risk factors. Probands were identified using ICD9 procedural codes 81.51 and 81.41 along with the ICD9 diagnosis code 996.66.

To ensure we are able to obtain adequate samples we may enroll additional patients as needed (n=50). Assuming a 10% recruitment rate, the study may contact up to 1500 individuals in order to recruit 150 participants. 

Unaffected family members, up to 3rd degree, will also be eligible to participate.
