Brief Summary

The Neural and Antidepressant Effects of Propofol (NAP) Study is evaluating propofol's impact on brain function in participants with treatment-resistant depression.

This NAP-HC companion study is a minimal-risk, observational study of healthy comparison (HC) subjects that has the following specific aims:

Aim 1:  Quantify differences in neurochemistry and brain functional connectivity between depressed and HC groups.

Aim 2:  Evaluate the reproducibility of brain functional measures acquired weeks apart.

Inclusion Criteria

Age 18-55 years

16-item Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (self-rated) < 6

Exclusion Criteria

Contraindication to MRI

Body mass index > 40 kg/m2

Daily use of psychotropic medication

Poorly controlled medical condition

Pregnant or breast feeding

Traumatic brain injury or significant neurologic signs (past year)

History of psychiatric disorder (lifetime)

Substance use disorder, moderate-to-severe (past 3 months)

Neurocognitive disorder (past year)

Incompetent to provide consent
