Teaching Young Children to Protect Their Skin
Utah has more people with the deadly skin cancer, melanoma, than any other state. However, we can change this trend if kids and adults protect themselves from damaging UV light.
To change this trend, Dermatology Services at University of Utah Health hosts a Sun Safe Contest each year for children K-12. Our Sun Safe Contest teaches children sun safe action steps. Most sun damage happens before the age of 18 so it is important to learn early to be aware of the sun.
Utah has amazing outdoor activities, and following these action steps can help kids to limit the sun, not the fun!
