Kevin S. Shah, MD, FACC, is a cardiologist with extensive training in treating patients with heart failure, including those who need ventricular assist devices (VADs) or heart transplants.
Dr. Shah performs heart catheterization, heart biopsies, and interprets echocardiography. As an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Shah instructs medical students, residents and fellows at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
Dr. Shah is from California and obtained his medical degree from the University of California Irvine where he was inducted in to the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at UC San Diego, where he was awarded the Kaiser Housestaff Teaching Award and the House Officer of the Year. He continued training in Cardiovascular Disease at UCLA where he was awarded the AHA Young Investigator Database Seed Grant and the William W. Parmley Award Young Author Achievement award from the Journal of American College of Cardiology. He completed further training in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at Cedars Sinai Heart Institute.
Dr. Shah's research has been published in leading cardiovascular journals including the Journal of American College of Cardiology and Circulation. He has presented research at multiple national and international meetings. His research interests include advanced heart failure and the cardiorenal syndrome. Furthermore, he has a personal and professional interest in reducing the burden of heart disease in the South Asian community. He was a co-author of the Scientific Statement from the American Heart Association on Cardiovascular Disease in South Asians in the United States.
Dr. Shah is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine, and Echocardiography. He is a member of many professional societies including the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, Heart Failure Society of America, and the American Society of Transplantation, for which he served on the Thoracic and Critical Care Community of Practice Executive Committee.
