  • Roxanne Bartel, MD, Associate Professor (Clinical), completed medical training at Yale Medical School followed by a psychiatric residency at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center and addiction fellowship at McLean Hospital in Boston. She has been focused on the treatment of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and has clinical expertise caring for patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and those with co-morbid substance use disorders. She has worked in both inpatient and jail mental health settings. Since 2003, she has been faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and is currently the adult inpatient Medical Director of the Huntsman Mental Health Institute (HMHI) and the President of the Medical Board of the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics. Throughout her career, she has focused on developing innovative clinical care and training models, including while serving as the adult psychiatry training director from 2010 to 2017. She will be the Medical Director of the planned Kem and Carolyn Gardner Crisis Care Center which opens in March 2025.
