Bio

Kurt T. Bernhisel, M.D., is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He joined the Division of Emergency Medicine in 1984 and has served as medical director for AirMed, Assistant Division Chief and Chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine. He is currently the medical director of the Emergency Care Unit. This is an observation unit where patients from the Emergency Department may be admitted for up to 24 hours. He is currently a Professor of Surgery (Clinical) in the Division of Emergench Medicine.

Academic Bio

Kurt T. Bernhisel, M.D., received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Utah in 1976. He graduated from the U of U medical school in 1980 and completed an Internal Medicine residency in 1984. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He joined the Division of Emergency Medicine in 1984 and has served as medical director for AirMed, Assistant Division Chief and Chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine and is currently a member of the clinical faculty. His research interests are in acute coronary syndrome, observational medicine, and EMS Medical Directors. Outside the emergency department, Dr. Bernhisel enjoys golf, skiing, hiking, travel and spending time with his family.
