Bradley Katz, MD, PhD, provides medical and surgical care of eye conditions including cataract, glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration at the John A. Moran Eye Center, University of Utah, Salt Lake City. He specializes in neuro-ophthalmology and evaluates patients with diseases that affect the optic nerve, diseases that affect eye movements and neurologic diseases that affect vision. I saw Dr. Katz two years ago concerning being blinded in the left eye after surgery in St. George, UT. I was so impressed with him and his thoroughness and care (He wrote a letter to my care giver regarding his findings) This was going above and beyond what I have ever experienced. Dr Katz's and his assistant are the very best. This visit was for second opinion.So grateful I saw him again, My Eye doctor, in St. George, said I(would go blind in the right eye in 5 years. Dr. Katz examined my eye and said it was fine. I love and trust him. I had a great visit. Told him I would see him again in 10 years. Hope we are both around!!!!!!

Dr Katz & any of his assistants have always taken into account what I have told them about any of my eye conditions, & taken them into consideration in making or helping with making a diagnoses. I dont work with any health care who dont listen to what I have to say about how my body feels in relationship to what my appt is about. Ive lived in this tricky old body 72 years, & Im very proactive about my health care. We listen to each other & get on with keeping my body running as well as possible at 72.

I very much liked the clinic and the doctor i had. I did a laser procedure prior to the scheduled cataract operation and the dr explained clearly why he wanted to do the laser procedure which was not paid for by medicare. I was not pushed to do it.

Dr. Katz explained the procedure to me prior to leaving the examination room. The procedure was done as Dr. Katz explained just what was happening in each phase of the procedure. This was a laser treatment and he told me each step of the procedure as it was happening. This was very calming as well. I was very pleased and it was done in a timely fashion and successfully, I might add!! Thank you Dr. Katz!!

This was not my best appointment. I had surgery in October and am still having issues. I was not really given a choice as to treatment this time, but that is not fair to say about the dr., because he knows what needs to be done, and he did it. Just wondering why it took so long to see the problem.

I would've appreciated to know that the plugs might be uncomfortable for a while and they might fall out and feel very uncomfortable and if so, to call and come in and that he would make it right. On the printed info on the plugs, it said that a drop of antibiotic should be placed in the eye after. He didn't do this. Maybe that is why my eyes felt so irritated for 3-4 days afterwards.

Everyone I saw except for one person in the office support staff was ok. The doctor did not even look at me. He spent the whole time I was there typing on the computer. When I tried to question him, he said he would answer my concerns after he finished on the computer. I spent 30 minutes? in the examination chair -- it seemed like an eternity. I ended up surfing on my i-phone. When he fi shed typing he said very little. Did not discuss any pertinent issues I had. He just walked out.

The visit was very professional. The doctor diagnosed the problem and Dr. Katz confirmed what his assistent diagnosed. Dr. Katz said this was not caused by as TNA and I did not understand his explanation. Nothing was said how to work with the problem of dry eye. I as the nurse what they would recommend. She talked to them and they told her for me to work with my doctor.

Still slightly confused what causes "floaters" but my eyes are healthy so it's all good. The doctor was super nice and made sure he checked every possible thing that could be wrong with my eyes. Seems like Dr. Katz didn't review the detailed notes that I shared, which makes me wonder why I spent time on it with Christal. He didn't ask me about everything I had indicated. I think it is perfectly fine for the physician to take time to read the notes to be fully informed and this was the first time I saw him. However, he was very responsive to my questions and when I brought up things like light sensitivity and asked about it in relation to being a former migraine sufferer. The primary thing that he could have told me when he said my eyes are very healthy is to manage my dry eye better. I had to ask about it to bring it all together. All in all, I like Dr. Katz and will make my next appointment with him.

I left without answers to a form being sent to the DMV recommended by my regular doctor. Will I still be able to drive after new glasses are ready? The glasses left there were my driving glasses. My eyes were dialated thereofre I had to drive home with dark glasses. I was extremely careful but concerned about driving without the forgotten ones.

I stopped at a shopping mall on the way home and wearing the dark glasses got into a discussion with the sales clerk who was having seemingly serious vision problems and was too frightened to have cataract surgery. On the basis of my experience at the Moran, I believe I was able to show her and convince her to get her eyes taken care of. I will go back soon and follow up with her.

My only complaint was I asked for sunglasses for my trip home. They did not give me any and through the rush of leaving I forgot to ask for them again. It was rather painful squinting my eyes waiting for the train and on my drive home. I had tremendous eye strain and had to take some ibuprofen when I got home. You need to give eye protection after dilating someones eyes.

I had good confidence in the practitioners I saw. They all seemed very competent. The triage nurse was a little rude about the equipment my optometrist used (still does the puff test, which apparently is not up to date at all). I enjoyed Dr. Katz the neuro-ophthalmologist most. Dr. Stevens was okay-- no complaints certainly, but not overly friendly.

I was referred to this provider by another Moran eye specialist and was under the impression that he could work with glasses and refractions. I suspect this was a case of mis-matching. After having several glasses prescriptions by optometrists and continuing to see double with the prescriptions, I opted to see an opthamologist. In my view, Dr. Katz diagnosed me before he ever walked into the exam room and listened to what I wanted to say. His diagnosis was dry eyes, which can cause double vision; however, he totally ignored my 3-4 attempts to say my vision is double at a distance depending on which glasses I wear. I do not doubt I have dry eyes, but using the OTC eye drops he prescribed has not cleared the vision problem, although my eyes do not feel as 'dry'. I think this mismatching was a misuse of his time and mine. I am supposed to go back for a f/u. Perhaps my eyes won't be dry anymore, but I doubt my glasses refraction problem will be solved.

The nurse was decent and the PA was great. Dr. Katz was arrogant, impersonal (he mostly spoke with the assistant without acknowledging I was in the room, only speaking to me when absolutely necessary) He refused to check for inflammation when I told him that my neurologist said that was something he would check for. He tried to send me home without even dilating my eyes. The only reason he did was I kept asking questions about symptoms so he said he guessed he could dilate them.

The Dr Katz was more interested in the computer and the assistant Dr than what I was saying. He insists my eye issue is from Diabetes which A1C confirms I don't now nor have I ever had Diabetes. He also said my High Blood Preasure- once again I don't have high blood pressure and never have. He has seen my previously and no solution just watched this and now that I have a problem no real reason or what to do to prevent more complications. I'm very concerned of my eye sight and keep coming back but I'm not convinced Dr Katz cares or understands what is going on. I would like to have a print out of the images and reports which I had to request and then wait for. I could have gotten them while we looked at them or taken a picture of them. He also said I had dry eye and didn't suggest anything for it. I understand he is the best but if so maybe he just doesn't like me.

I'm extremely impressed with Dr. Katz. He is a wonderful doctor. He was very thorough in my care and when I emailed him with some information, he responded very promptly. I have anxiety disorder and Dr. Katz was so patient with me and my concerns. Also, I live in Tooele and on the day of my appointment there was a car accident that made me nearly 45 minutes late to my appointment. your Dr was very behind so when he came in I wasn't asked one question. he did a very fast exam and told me my eye pain was caused by neck stiffness and there wasn't anything that can be done for eye floaters which is interfering with my vision. the end. it was over. no explanation of any of my issues. it took 3 hours for that. dispoointed to say the least.

During my visit, there was a visiting woman Dr. from another country. Dr. Katz's explanation to her about how he came to the conclusion he did on my eyesight and adding a crystal to my left eyeglass lens and me seeing things on a tilt - is what made it easier for me to understand why I had 20/20 vision but was seeing double and had to close my right eye to see clearly. I knew something was wrong, but couldn't explain or put into words. The P.A. didn't understand either and I could tell he was blowing me off (in a way) - although he was very professional and kind. So, Dr. Katz just needed to speak to me as he did the visiting Dr. - I have MS and get confused easily - but I could understand, in a way, what he was explaining to her how he came to his conclusion. And I "do" have the need to understand things, rather than just being 'fixed'. I had a lovely experience.

dr Katz brought in three fellows, didn't introduce them , and treated me like a lab rat. I felt out of control and unable to discuss anything about my condition with him because of the overwhelming number of people. I actually froze and my husband had to speak because of my anxiety disorder. I found him uncaring and distant from input since there were so many coats in the small room, especially considering we are looking at a serious autoimmune disease diagnosis. I think he is competent, just needs a thump up side the head on how to treat patients, even in a teaching institution .

Dr. Katz wrote me a prescription for corrective (prism) glasses on my previous visit, he informed me that if they were not a proper correction to let him know, after receiving the glasses I determined they were not working and my vision was not improved. I phoned the clinic to make an appointment to have the prescription adjusted, was told I would need to speak to Dr. Katz directly, waited one week for a follow up phone call and was told I needed to come back in to be re-examined. The next available appointment was approximately one week later. Dr. Katz entered the exam room, I stated that I felt the glasses need a different prescription, he stated there was nothing more that could be done to the prescription. I was not evaluated, the glasses were not checked. I could have been told this over the phone instead of making another trip to the Moran, finding a driver (who had to schedule time off of work). The appointment was a total waste of EVERYONE'S time. Dr. Katz could/should have relayed this information to me over the telephone.

He actually took extra time to get me measured for new interocular lenses so he could do surgery even though I was there for another reason. It's always frustrating to go to a Dr. appt and see Interns, Fellows and 4 minutes with the actual Dr. you had an appointment to see. Although I admit the team did an amazing job, I was not overly happy with the interaction and care the Dr. gave. I felt like although I know I have problems he really wasn't interested in helping me understand them he just wanted me out the door and handed me another pill I am supposed to take. Dr.'s are busy I get that but so am I. Busy doesn't equate to a hit and run appt.

I have been coming for about a year and every 3 or 4 months I have a follow up appointment to see how things are progressing. Each time since the first visit I have spent no less than 2 hours and as much as 3 hours and 25 minutes to be seen. I have found the wait to be excessive especially when it's a follow up appointment. I understand problems happen but I have wondered if patients are seen by appointment time and wondered why a follow up has to wait soooooo long to be seen when my actual time with the doctor is less than 30 minutes. I have worked in a doctors office so I do have a reasonable expectation of the time it should take to be seen.

Bradley Katz, MD, PhD, provides medical and surgical care of eye conditions including cataract, glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration at the John A. Moran Eye Center, University of Utah, Salt Lake City. He specializes in neuro-ophthalmology and evaluates patients with diseases that affect the optic nerve, diseases that affect eye movements and neurologic diseases that affect vision. Dr. Katz’s research interests center around include light sensitivity (“photophobia”) and neurologic conditions associated with light sensitivity, such as migraine and blepharospasm.
