Sharon M. Weinstein MD, FAAHPM is Chief of Holistic Medicine at the Veterans Administration Salt Lake City Health Care System. She is a Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) physician and investigator, a professor of anesthesiology and adjunct associate professor of neurology and internal medicine (oncology) at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. She is a pain medicine and palliative care consultant at Huntsman Cancer Institute and Primary Children’s Medical Center.

Dr. Weinstein earned her medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where she also completed her residency in neurology. She was a fellow in pain medicine at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Weinstein is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with a certificate of added qualification in pain medicine and is certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in hospice and palliative medicine. She has a background in dance, massage therapy and complementary medicine.

Dr. Weinstein was elected fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine in 2009. She received the 2010 Regence Foundation Sojourns Award for leadership in Palliative Care, and designated the $50,000 grant to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation for the Albert A. Weinstein Memorial Palliative Medicine Training Award, in memory of her father. She is a faculty scholar of the Open Society Institute’s Project on Death in America. She was awarded a clinical oncology career development award by the American Cancer Society for her research in post-amputation phantom pain. Dr. Weinstein is the associate editor for supportive oncology for the Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, is a section editor of Current Pain and Headache Reports, and serves on the editorial board of CNS Special Edition. She enjoys spending time with her family including two grandchildren, listening to music, dancing, writing poetry, reading and being in the natural world.
