Bio

Boaz Markewitz, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania and received his medical degree from the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. He received training in Internal Medicine at Hartford Hospital where he was also Chief Medical resident. He completed a Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at the University of Utah. Upon completion of his fellowship, he joined the faculty at Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport, Louisiana and returned to the University of Utah in 2000.

He currently serves as the Medical Director of both the Department of Respiratory Therapy and the Pulmonary Function Laboratory. His hospital based clinical care is primarily as an attending in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital. His outpatient clinical care focuses on patients with pulmonary hypertension and scleroderma spectrum lung diseases.

Academic Bio

Boaz Markewitz, M.D. is an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Respiratory, Critical Care, and Occupational Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He serves as the Medical Director of the Department of Respiratory Therapy as well as the Pulmonary Function Laboratory.

He received his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. He received training in Internal Medicine at Hartford Hospital and Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine training at the University of Utah. After training he joined the faculty of the Louisiana State University Health Science Center, and Overton Brooks VAMC in Shreveport, Louisiana. While there he served as both the Program Director of the Pulmonary Disease/Critical Care Medicine fellowship program and as the Medical Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the Overton Brooks VAMC.

His research interests include respiratory physiology, respiratory therapy, pneumonia and its diagnosis, pulmonary hypertension, scleroderma spectrum of lung diseases, protocol adherence and the effect of interruptions on patient care. He has also led various quality improvement initiatives with the most recent efforts focused on respiratory therapist driven protocols of care and central line infection reduction.
