Bio

Dr. Bennett received her medical degree from the Northwestern University School of Medicine, completed her Pediatric residency at the Texas Children's Hospital at the Baylor College of Medicine, and completed her Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Bennett completed a NRSA fellowship in Pediatric Neurointensive care and served on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh for a year before moving to Utah. Dr. Bennett is board certified in Pediatrics and in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Bennett is currently Associate Professor of Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah and serves as the Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Primary Children's Medical Center. She cares for children with critical illnesses and has special interest in traumatic injuries and neurointensive care. She is actively involved in clinical investigations to better understand treatment for traumatic brain injury and cardiac arrest in children.

Academic Bio

Dr. Bennett is an Associate Professor in Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah. She graduated from the Northwestern University School of Medicine and completed Pediatric Residency Training at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed both a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care and an NRSA research fellowship in Pediatric Neurointensive Care at the University of Pittsburgh. She joined the faculty at the University of Utah in Summer, 2002. While on faculty at the University of Utah, Dr. Bennett has obtained an Masters of Public Health, served as a Child Health Research Center Scholar and a Pediatric Clinical and Translational Research Scholar, and been funded by a Child Health Research Career Development Award grant and the Primary Children's Medical Center Foundation.

Dr. Bennett has been involved in both laboratory and clinical research at the University of Utah. She is adjunct faculty in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and the Interdepartmental Program for Neuroscience. Her laboratory research involved a preclinical model of pediatric traumatic brain injury and led to her current clinical and translational investigations in this area. She is currently involved in investigations of markers of early brain function and outcomes in children with severe traumatic brain injury. In addition, she is the local investigator for the THAPCA trials, which are multicenter randomized controlled trials of body temperature management in children who have suffered a cardiac arrest. Her laboratory and clinical research has lead to over 20 peer-reviewed publications, several editorials, and 5 book chapters.
