Michael Chen, MD is a board-certified family physician who received his medical degree from the University of Utah where he received The Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award and Chase Peterson Family Medicine Leadership Award. He completed residency at the Utah Valley Family Medicine Residency where he was a Chief Resident. He also has an Executive Certificate in Leadership and Management from the University of Notre Dame, Mendoza College of Business. He currently serves as Medical Director of Population Health for the Community Physicians Group.
Dr. Chen enjoys seeing patients of all age ranges and has an interest in mental health, sports medicine, and adolescent medicine. He likes teaching and mentoring medical students as well as serving on the University of Utah School of Medicine Admissions Committee. He is also actively involved as a Board Member for the Utah Academy of Family Physicians and the University of Utah School of Medicine Alumni Board. He advocates for the public as a member of the Utah Health Advisory Council.
Dr. Chen pursued family medicine to provide access to quality, patient-centered care for all family members. He enjoys establishing relationships with each patient and looks forward to caring for them throughout their lifetime.
Dr. Chen enjoys skiing at Snowbird where he spent many years racing and coaching. He also enjoys watching Utah Utes football and listening to the Utah Symphony. He and his partner Julie live in the Salt Lake Valley.

I mentioned concerns I was having and the doctor did not even look or examine at my concerns. I came because I wanted to know if I was physically well in every way, and all he did was look in to my ears and throats. Literally, that was the extent of his time with me. He didn't want to get to the bottom of the concerns I came to him with.

Dr Chen is very nice and professional, however he did not take any time to discuss menopause, hot flashes, pro's or con's about hormones therapy. He listened to my concern about hair loss, gave me a couple possible reasons, ordered blood work, listened to my heart/lungs and left the room. Very short annual physical. I do not feel like he would know me if he saw me next month in the lobby.

I asked for certain test to be ran and he said "even if it comes back positive there is nothing different treatment wise I would do for you so it's kinda pointless" well my test came back positive. So it's kinda pointless to stick with a dr who will not help me with my situation better.

The wait time was very low and the nurse assistant was nice. However, we spent about 3 minutes with the doctor and he did not give us any Direction about what to do. We didn't get the after visit summary with the number to call to schedule the ultra sound. I am concerned about the lump I have on my chest and he just said I could be a fatty lump of tissues, we'll get an ultra sound to check. Any other questions? No... You're all set. We essentially just felt like a number and the doctor was too busy to see us.
