She always spends the time needed, which is sometimes more than what's allotted, to listen to and address my concerns. The main issue I had was after waiting for three months, I had a list of 5-6 concerns plus the doctor asked me several questions so it took time. Towards the end, I told the doctor I had two more questions and she said, "I only have so much time." She did let me ask the questions but as a patient, I shut down. I felt stupid. I felt like I couldn't confide in or ask questions. Its an uncomfortable position to be in as a patient. Especially after waiting so long to see a Doctor who came highly recommended. I was disappointed.

Maybe the days of a PCP asking the simple question, "How are you doing?" is a thing of the past. There was minimal eye contact given and no questions about my concerns. Instead she began typing on the computer while focused on the screen and dovetailed the visit based on what I told her nursing assistant. Also, she insisted that a med would react with my body in a certain way when I know exactly how I react to it, but she discounted my view by explaining her recent training and understanding of timelines. She did not acknowledge that perhaps my body does not fit those protocols. In my opinion, this is certainly possible. I do appreciate Dr. Van Leuven's busy schedule and I am grateful for her expertise and compassionate demeanor I have experienced in the past, but this was not a satisfying visit. I was asked electronically some questions prior to my visit, but she did not even review these concerns with me, especially my concerns about sleep problems.

I received a more through explanation than I had before. I often get little or no feedback from physians. Dr. Van Leuvan took the time to explain things about thyroid testing we hadn't talked about before and my confidence in her care went up. I hadn't talked to her about the things I knew about thyroid testing, and when I did, she realized I had some questions, and we talked. I hate it when Drs assume all I want is to be taken care of. I want to understand and be involved in my health care! Dr. Van Lieuvan and I haven't always clicked concerning my needs, but she's always been willing to talk.

I really would like to recommend Dr. VanLeuvan; however, feel that she has too many patients when trying to make an appointment as an existing patient; therefore, I hesitate as do many of her other patients. Maybe you could reduce the amount of new patients.

She sent me to get physical therapy on my knee. At the pt clinic they said I needed an MRI I left myDr a message asking her for an MRI. She made me come in again to look at my knee a second time with no regard to cost to me. She sent me for an MRI I think she should have done that in the first place, Pt made my knee worse. Or given me a referral to a knee specialist ASAP. Which I will be seeing Friday at 9am. My results were bad and I feel like I wasted a lot of time getting to where I should be with this injury.

I have been looking for a new primary care physician and this was the 4th attempt at finding one. Dr Leuven is perfect. I particularly like that the U offers video bios of doctors vs. the standard education, board certs, languages. While that is important information, if you don't click with your doctor it doesn't really matter.
