I didn't feel like this provider had interest in me. My appointment was at 11:30, and he was timely. However, I was was back out at the appointment desk (he wanted me to make an appointment for an audiology test) at 11:36. I was wanting to establish care with a PCP and had several concerns. Ringing in my ears was just one of my concerns. He did explain that he wanted to have me evaluated be audiology, that's it. He does note in my visit note that I am aware a medication I am taking can cause tinnitus, HOWEVER-I asked him about that as he was walking me down the hall to the appointment desk! He never mentioned it! That was based on my research. Very disappointed.

Dr Van Staden is very arrogant, he wouldn't listen to my concerns at all. I told him that I'm concerned about the amount of weight I've put on this past year and the concerns I have about it and why. He told me that I shouldn't drink protein drinks because they're high in carbs, I tried to tell him that mine weren't (they only have 4 carbs). He said we butt heads on my care when I tried to tell him that he was incorrect on the amount of movement I get with my job and the exercise program that I was doing. He insisted that the only way to really workout was going to a gym and that the beach body workout was no good. He was familiar with beach body when they had a couple of workouts many years ago but he's not familiar with what they are now which is 100's of workouts to fit any type of activity that you are looking for. I also tried to tell him that I've been retaining alot of water and asked about increasing the mil of my water pill. He told me that in my job I sit too long and that I need to get up and move around more. I tried to tell him that I get up as often as I can for that exact reason and that just because I have a desk does not mean that I'm just sitting at it all the time and that our job requires most of us to get up and move around often. My legs and ankles swell whether I'm on my feet a lot or not but he didn't even look into it. Needless to say I don't feel like he even tried to listen to me, he just made assumptions that weren't true. I will not be going back to him even though he said I'd have to be seen by him again to get a refill on a med.

Great dr. But he Is Always busy, rushing! This time was a wellness visit, I thought he was going to look up at my chart with more care. He would have found that I was on the Emergency room with dizziness few days back.( I made a comment regarding this)Luckily my amazing ENT took care of that. Dr Van Staden is great but he makes me nervous, I asume he has so many patients, he asked about my husband and I thank him for that. He IS very nice but I feel that at least for my wellness visit he could have take more time. I was 10 minutes or more with the nurse who give me the Flu Shot ,she was Excellent!! Caring... With Dr Van Staden? Maybe 7 minutes.Yep.. No more... I check the time, on purpose, because this Is not the first time I feel like this with him, rushing.! .nope. No more.

Dr VanStaden is fantastic! He gave me his diagnosis, explaining things very well, then was great at understanding a triathlete's questions about being able to do a race just 12 days out. He recommended immediate PT, and was confident we could address this by tapering through with therapy. I will absolutely be coming back to Dr VanStaden in the future. It's great to find an excellent doctor!

Dr. Van Staden made me feel stupid when I asked if I would be needing a physical, as he stated that I should know my insurance does not cover those. I am new to this insurance so I had no idea preventive care was not covered. He rolled his eyes a few times when he found out I was being treated for chronic pain and I didn't feel that was professional. I was not asking him to follow that part of my care I was just informing him, he did not need to be rude, and after that he seemed to cut the exam short. He listened to my lungs and that was the end. He has a terrible bedside manner, and I will not see him again nor will I recommend anyone ever see him.

I really wanted to give this doctor a second chance, Dr. Van Staden seems very confident, and even though I've had a negative experience with him in the past I wanted to keep seeing him. But it seems he is letting his ego get in the way of providing good service. He was offended that I saw a physical therapist for my back problem before him, and simply came to him to get a prescription for muscle relaxers. Since that visit, he has been short, and unhelpful. This annual check up was a chance to see if we could keep working together, But he obviously can't give me a high degree of care based on our last visit. Instead of leaving feedback or comments on any other site I messaged him directly, which you can see in the my chart account. It seems like he has decent reviews on the University of Utah website, but other Dr. grading websites online give him only two out of four stars.
