Research Statement

Troy E. Madsen, MD, is an emergency medicine researcher with multiple publications in cardiovascular disease, pulmonary embolism, and emergency department operations. His current studies involve the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary embolism and efforts to reduce opioid abuse among emergency department patients. He has served as the principal investigator or co-invesitgator for several federal, foundation, and industry grants, including funding for an emergency department program of screening, brief intervention, and referral for treatment (SBIRT) for opioid abuse as well as outpatient treatment of pulmonary embolism. He values the mentorship opportunities offered through research; the residents and medical students who work with him regularly present at national emergency medicine meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
