  • Jessica Lewis-Caporal, DNP, FNP-BC joined the Department of OB/GYN, Division of Family Planning at the University of Utah in October of 2018. She previously worked as a nurse practitioner at the Salt Lake City VA Women Veteran’s Clinic and at the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah. Her current clinical practice focuses on general OB/GYN and family planning.

    She completed her undergraduate nursing degrees at Chemeketa Community College and Linfield College, beginning her nursing career as a Labor & Delivery and outpatient clinic nurse. She completed her Masters in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner program at Westminster College in 2011 and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at the University of Colorado in 2019. Her Doctoral scholarly quality improvement project focused on implementing system-wide changes to improve contraceptive care for medically complex patients within the University of Utah Health system.

    Jessica serves as a sub-I on several ongoing contraceptive method clinical trials at University of Utah Health. She is also a clinical training expert as part of the Utah state-wide contraceptive access initiative project: Family Planning Elevated. Future research and quality improvement project interests include improving access and patient experience for patients experiencing early pregnancy complications, the intersection of women’s health disparities and ACE (adverse childhood experiences) scores, and improving access to comprehensive family planning services. She enjoys teaching nursing students of all levels and is always available to support Complex Family Planning Fellows, OB/GYN Residents, Medical students, and PA students.

    Dr. Lewis- Caporal is very attentive and great at explaining the answers to my questions I have so that I can understand them. I cant thank her enough in walking me through my birth control journey.

    She was FANTASTIC! Despite being very busy, she never made me feel rushed. She took the time to listen to everything I was concerned about, gave me a variety of options, and made me feel that I could make whatever choice I felt was best for my circumstances. She was kind, professional, and really made me feel calm despite what worries I had about the symptoms I was experiencing.

    Not thorough exam, it seem like she uncomfortable to exam you. I am not planning to go back seeing her again next year.
