  • Dr. Carina Jackman is a dual board-certified anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician who specializes in chronic pain management. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Dr. Jackman went on to earn her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 2012. She then completed a residency in Anesthesiology and fellowship training in Pain Medicine at the University of Utah, which included training at the VA Hospital and Huntsman Cancer Institute. She then joined the faculty of the University of Utah in 2016 with promotion to Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology in 2018.

    Dr. Jackman is dedicated to leading an interdisciplinary team approach to pain management. She specializes in managing complex chronic pain conditions. She practices at the Pain Management Center in Research Park and additionally works as a clinical anesthesiologist. Her practice and research focus on strategies for tapering patients on chronic opioids as well as alternatives to opioid therapy such as interventional spine procedures and spinal cord stimulation.

    Currently she contributes as Co-Investigator to two NIH HEAL multi-center trials aimed at advancing non-opioid pain management. Dr. Jackman is the study physician for an NIH funded community pharmacy project. Her past research focused on decreasing systemic side effects of opioid medication in cancer patients through implanted intrathecal therapy.

    She currently serves as the Quality Improvement Officer for the Division of Pain and is a member of the Department of Anesthesiology Quality Improvement Council. Dr. Jackman is a member of the Fellowship Selection Committee as well as the University of Utah School of Medicine Admissions Committee. She is dedicated to involvement in medical leadership and served in the past as an elected representative of the Utah Medical Association Resident Section.

    Dr Jackman is the best provider I have within the university providers. She has actually improved by treatments while discontinuing opioids.
