  • Kevin S Shah, MD, FACC, FHFSA, is a cardiologist who treats patients with cardiovascular disease as well patients with heart failure, who may benefit from ventricular assist devices or heart transplantation. Dr. Shah is the Director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and also performs heart catheterization, heart biopsies, trans-esophageal echocardiography and interprets transthoracic echocardiography. As an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Dr. Shah trains medical students, residents and fellows at the University of Utah.

    Dr. Shah is from California and obtained his medical degree from the University of California Irvine where he was inducted in to the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at UC San Diego, where he was awarded the Kaiser Housestaff Teaching Award and the House Officer of the Year. He continued training in Cardiovascular Disease at UCLA where he was awarded the William W. Parmley Award Young Author Achievement Manuscript of the Year award from the Journal of American College of Cardiology (JACC). He completed additional training in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at Cedars Sinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles.


    Dr. Shah has published research in leading cardiovascular journals including the Journal of American College of Cardiology and Circulation. He has presented research at multiple national and international meetings. His research interests include advanced heart failure and reducing heart disease within the South Asian community. He was a co-author of the Scientific Statement from the American Heart Association on Cardiovascular Disease in South Asians in the United States.


    Dr. Shah is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine, Echocardiography, and Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. He serves on the Scientific Publications Committee for the Heart Failure Society of America and hosts their podcast Heart Failure Beat, expanding discussion regarding the care of heart failure patients.
