Mindy Westlund Schreiner, PhD, Instructor (Clinical), is a licensed clinical psychologist. She completed her BA, MA, and PhD degrees at the University of Minnesota and joined the University of Utah Department of Psychiatry as a postdoctoral fellow in 2019, working with Drs. Scott Langenecker and Sheila Crowell in the MEND2 lab. Both her research and clinical interests are in the area of mood disorders with a specific focus on self-injurious thoughts and behaviors (SITBs) in youth. Her research incorporates neuroimaging approaches with intervention strategies to understand mechanisms of change associated with SITBs. The aim of this work is to improve clinical outcomes in youth. She has also been involved in research and quality improvement for SafeUT, investigating the impact of SafeUT on mental health service utilization and providing suicide assessment training to SafeUT clinicians. Finally, she has begun working with a team to develop a “Center of Excellence” at HMHI focused on evaluating and improving the effectiveness of the High Fidelity Wraparound and Stabilization and Mobile Response services provided by the Utah Department of Human Services. Dr. Westlund Schreiner was recently named a 2021 Young Investigator by the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation and is excited to be joining the faculty at HMHI to continue her career in understanding and improving outcomes for youth with suicide and self-injury..
