Dr. Abiodun Azeez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Utah, with specialized training in neurocritical care. He joined the University of Utah faculty in 2026 following advanced fellowship training in multidisciplinary neurocritical care at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Azeez received his medical degree from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria and completed his neurosurgical residency training from two of the top-most training centers in Nigeria—the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Benin City and University College Hospital in Ibadan. He earned board certification from the West African College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of England in neurosurgery. His clinical training has been further enriched by international experiences, including visiting physician appointments in Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean.

Before joining the University of Utah, Dr. Azeez served as an attending neurosurgeon at multiple institutions across Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, including Aseer Central Hospital and King Abdulaziz Hospital. He has also held academic appointments as an associate lecturer and assistant professor of neurosurgery at Igbinedion University and University of Benin in Nigeria.

Dr. Azeez’s clinical interests include neurocritical care, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and the management of complex neurosurgical conditions in both high- and low-resource settings. His research contributions include participation as a principal investigator in the landmark CRASH-3 trial, published in The Lancet, which evaluated the use of tranexamic acid in traumatic brain injury.

A dedicated educator, Dr. Azeez has extensive experience teaching medical students, residents, and multidisciplinary trainees in both classroom and clinical settings. His commitment to mentorship and global neurosurgery is reflected in his involvement in training programs, international collaborations, and community outreach initiatives.

Dr. Azeez is a member of several leading professional organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the Neurocritical Care Society, and is committed to delivering the highest standards of care to every patient he serves.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Azeez enjoys traveling across the United States and internationally with his family.
