Erina Horikawa, MD

Languages spoken: English

Hello! My name is Erina Horikawa, I am a first-year pediatric resident at the University of Utah. I am also in the Triple Board Program, where I will train in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry along with Pediatrics. I grew up in the Tokyo area and moved to Whidbey Island, Washington when I was 13. I speak Japanese and am currently trying to learn some Spanish. I attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, where I majored in Race and Ethnic Studies and am passionate about health equity and understanding the social and political determinants of health. I went to Washington State University Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine for medical school, a community based medical school where I was able to work in rural and underserved communities. In the future, for now, I’m interested in working with kids who have had adverse experiences, such as being unhoused, being in the foster system, being a recent immigrant or refugee, and would love to work in places like juvenile justice centers or school-based clinics! Outside of medicine, I have two corgis and live with my significant other in downtown Salt Lake City. We like to cook, hike, and explore new places, which there are plenty to discover in Utah!
