  • Jeanmarie Mayer, MD, is the Hospital Epidemiologist for the University of Utah Health Care Hospitals and Clinics. As a Healthcare Epidemiologist and an Infectious Disease specialist, her clinical interests focus on the prevention of healthcare-associated infections. She deals with all aspects of the healthcare setting to reduce the transmission of multidrug resistant organisms and prevent patients or staff from acquiring a healthcare-associated infection through surveillance, conducting outbreak investigations, development of policies, audits, teaching, providing advice and consultation, and leading quality improvement initiatives.

    Dr. Mayer received her Bachelor of Science Degree from William Smith College. She received training in medicine from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. In the past, Dr. Mayer served as Chair of the Utah Healthcare Associated Infection Work Group and she currently has a state leadership role as Chair of the Utah Healthcare Infection Prevention Governance Committee. She is a member of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, and serves on this organization's Guidelines Writing Committee as well as their Expert Antimicrobial Utilization Consultation Panel.
