  • Kate Layne joined the University of Utah Pulmonary Division in 2025 as a Nurse Practitioner. She works alongside expert physicians and pharmacists that specialize in an array of lung diseases including asthma, pulmonary sarcoidosis, COPD, and interstitial lung disease. Kate earned her Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner at Westminster College in 2022 followed by a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Residency at the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center and a year of independent practice as a primary care provider at the South Jordan VA Clinic.

    Kate received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Oregon Health and Sciences University in 2005. She spent nearly 17 years as a nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Utah which is where her interest in pulmonary medicine began. She primarily works with asthma, COPD, general dyspnea, and pulmonary sarcoidosis patients.

    She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and is licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. On her days off, Kate enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons, cooking, and visiting family out of state. Kate is currently accepting new patients at the South Jordan Health Center and Main Hospital (E10) Clinic.
