Did You Know?
Chickenpox is a form of the herpes virus.
After vaccination, 8 to 9 of every 10 people are completely protected from chickenpox.
Chickenpox first appears on the face and torso, then spreads over the body, causing between 250 and 500 red, itchy blisters.
After chickenpox occurs, the inactive virus remains in the body. If it reactivates in older age it causes a painful condition called shingles. If you are 50 or older, ask your doctor about the Zostavax vaccination.
