Remember that rock concert that left your ears ringing? Lucky for you, it probably didn’t result in lasting hearing loss. But if you had front-row seats every night, it’d be a different story and here’s why: Your eardrum can rupture when exposed to sounds measuring 150 decibels. A rock concert clocks in at 110. And prolonged exposure to any noise above 90 can have harmful consequences.

Here’s how some of the sounds you’re exposed to in autumn measure up.
