Almost 20 million Americans suffer from some sort of vision loss. There are easy ways to protect your vision though. Here are a few easy things you can do.

Eye Precautions

Wear Sunglasses

Make sure the glasses you pick block both kinds of UV rays. The sun can cause damage to the retina as well as the delicate skin around the eye and wearing sunglasses helps protect these areas.

Don't Smoke

If you do smoke you need to quit! Smoking is directly related to many adverse health including macular degeneration.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Make sure you are eating your veggies. Some vegetables like carrots and leafy greens contain vitamins that are important for keeping your eyes healthy.

Visit Your Eye Doctor

Your doctor will help you stay current with your glasses and contacts if you need them, make regular examinations of your eyes, and be able to catch conditions early for treatment and prevention of vision loss.

Prevent Eye Strain

If you spend a lot of time looking at a computer or something close to you use the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Be Careful with Eye Makeup

Replace mascara every three months and eye shadows yearly. When using eyeliner, try to avoid lining inside the lash line as it can block oil glands. Remember to wash brushes regularly and do not share any eye makeup or applicators.
