Discover your benefits

As an employee or dependent of University of Utah, you have two options to access mental health support. These options vary in cost and the extent of support offered. Explore your benefits and the support available to you.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

No cost, short-term mental health support.

Behavioral Health Network (BHN)

Short or long-term mental health support billed through your health insurance.

What is the Employee Assistance Program?

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential counseling and support service available to employees and their immediate family members residing in the same household. While the University of Utah provides this benefit as part of its mental health package, all services are provided by independent EAP providers contracted by the University and are not directly affiliated with it. The EAP offers short-term mental health support and practical resources to help manage everyday challenges. This benefit is separate from medical insurance and is provided by your employer:

  • Solution-focused counseling for immediate needs and short-term cases
  • Clinical assessments to determine care requirements
  • Free seminars and workshops
  • Resource referrals
  • Legal consultations
  • 24/7 crisis support appointments
