What's All That Construction?

Campus Transformation at University of Utah Health

If you’ve been by the hospital lately, you may be wondering about all the construction going on. University of Utah Health is undergoing exciting new growth that will let us better serve the growing population of our state.

Excitement is Building. Our new buildings will help us improve care and services to bring world-class health care to more patients in Utah and beyond.

You can also see how construction for our new buildings will affect travel routes to University of Utah Hospital.

Our New Ambulatory Care Complex

University of Utah Health’s new Ambulatory Care Complex (or ACC) will be a 305,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that will serve over 100,000 new patients each year. It will be located south of University of Utah Hospital, across from the Medical Center Trax Station.

Once it’s built, our new Ambulatory Care Complex will allow us to create more convenient access for patients who need world-class expertise for their care, but don’t need to stay overnight in the hospital. Patients who don’t need to be admitted into the hospital to stay are called outpatients.

Our new ACC will also allow us to move outpatients who aren’t in critical condition out of the hospital and into a more convenient, efficient environment that better suits their needs.

Visit our on-site construction camera for a time-lapse of construction so far.

Our Ambulatory Care Complex is scheduled to be completed in 2019.

Our New Rehabilitation Hospital

Patients going through rehabilitation have unique needs. They also need an expert, caring team of health providers giving specialized care to make sure they have the best recovery possible.

University of Utah Health’s new rehabilitation hospital will become our region’s most qualified destination for patients recovering from and adjusting to life-altering injuries and conditions. It will be a restorative and healing environment designed to speed recovery and improve quality of life for patients after they return home.

This new building will provide the following services to rehab patients:

  • an outdoor therapy garden
  • a large therapy gymp
  • inpatient beds with sweeping views of the Salt Lake valley

The rehabilitation hospital is scheduled to completed in 2019.

Bringing World-Class Research to Rehab Patients

Our rehab hospital will also have a new innovation center. Our innovation center will be an ideal place for health professionals to collaborate in areas that improve care for rehab patients, including technology, research, and rehabilitation science.

Medical Education & Discovery Building: Training Tomorrow’s Health Leaders

Patients can only receive world-class care if we educate tomorrow’s health leaders. We’re also building a new Medical Education & Discovery Building that will serve as a hub for University of Utah Health’s education and training efforts.

This space will be a place for students, faculty, and industry partners to come together and create, test, and implement solutions to some of health care’s most challenging problems.
