All patients treated at University of Utah Health hospitals and clinics, including Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI), receive email surveys about their experience. U of U Health uses Press Ganey, a company that measures patient satisfaction at health care organizations. Survey comments about specific doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants are posted online as reviews on the provider’s profile page.
Why do we have patients take these surveys?
"At Huntsman Cancer Institute, our guiding principles are the patient first, a united effort, and excellence in all we do. Our patient satisfaction surveys guide us to determine if we are meeting these high expectations," says John Ward, MD, interim Senior Director of Clinical Affairs and interim Physician-in-Chief at HCI.
Why do we post comments online?
Online comments give insights into providers, allowing patients, their families, and members of the public to make the best possible choice of a physician to care for them.
"Our goal is to provide compassionate, state-of-the art cancer care, and strive to improve all aspects of the patient experience," Dr. Ward says. "We will never be satisfied with past performance and we use this feedback to find ways to improve."
