Huntsman Cancer Institute Executive and Researcher Mary Beckerle Elected to National Academy of Sciences

The National Academy of Sciences has elected Mary Beckerle, PhD, Huntsman Cancer Institute CEO, as a member. Beckerle is among 120 newly elected members announced and according to the National Academy, election as a member in this organization is widely accepted as a mark of excellence in scientific achievement and is considered one of the highest honors a scientist can receive.

Huntsman Cancer Institute announced the appointment of physician-scientist Neeraj Agarwal, MD, as senior director of clinical research innovation. Agarwal will serve on the senior leadership of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at HCI, oversee critical components of HCI’s clinical research infrastructure, and will lead efforts to accelerate the process of bringing new, innovative clinical trial offerings to patients.

A Message of Gratitude to John Ward, MD

In April of 2019 John Ward, MD became the interim chief clinical officer of HCI and physician-in-chief of the cancer hospital. He willingly accepted this interim position, having no idea how long it would last or that it would include overseeing cancer care during a worldwide pandemic. We recently announced Dr. Sachin Apte as the new chief clinical officer and physician-in-chief. Dr. Ward will continue his service at HCI, including his clinical program caring for breast cancer patients and other key leadership roles.

Sachin Apte Joins Huntsman Cancer Institute as Chief Clinical Officer

Huntsman Cancer Institute and University of Utah Health welcome Sachin Apte, MD, MS, MBA. Apte was recruited from Moffitt Cancer Center and will serve as chief clinical officer of HCI and physician-in-chief of the cancer hospital. Selected following an extensive national search, Apte begins his appointment on February 8, 2021.
