We Support #MaskUpUtah to Protect Cancer Patients and the Community

As COVID-19 numbers continue to increase in Utah, members of Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Community Advisory Board add their names to the people and health care organizations supporting the #MaskUpUtah campaign. They join us in asking everyone to wear a mask to protect cancer patients, who have weakened immune systems, and slow the spread of COVID-19.

Helping Wyoming’s Rural Communities Get Cancer Care and Resources

Before Sweetwater County, Wyoming, had its own cancer center, patients had to travel to Salt Lake or farther for treatment, says Tasha Harris, director of the Sweetwater Regional Cancer Center. As a member of HCI’s Community Advisory Board, she is able to connect people in rural Wyoming communities with even more cancer resources, prevention information, and screenings.

Community Advisory Board Spotlight: Lily Helzer

Lily Helzer, MPH, is the chronic disease prevention and health promotion section manager of Nevada’s Department of Health and Human Services. She lives in Reno, Nevada, and works in collaboration with the Comprehensive Cancer Control Program and the Nevada Cancer Coalition to bring communities and partner organizations together to reduce the burden of cancer across Nevada.

Community Advisory Board Spotlight: Eruera “Ed” Napia

Eruera “Ed” Napia is a New Zealand and Maori-born artist who lives in Salt Lake City. Since 2004, he has developed programs at the Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake. Ed has designed and taught university courses, performed song and dance around the world, won several awards for his sculpture, and presented at conferences across the United States. Ed joined the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) Community Advisory Board as a founding member in 2018.

Community Advisory Board Spotlight: Christine Stoffel

Christine Stoffel joined Huntsman Cancer Institute's Community Advisory Board to advocate for parents who have, or someday might have, a child diagnosed with cancer. She wanted to share her family’s experiences and concerns. She also wanted to learn more about current efforts to eradicate cancer and assist those efforts in any way she can.
