Why Psychiatric Care Matters During Cancer Care

Cancer affects more than the body. It can impact mood, sleep, concentration, motivation, and overall well-being. Symptoms such as anxiety, depression, trauma-related stress, and changes in thinking or behavior may occur at any stage—from diagnosis through treatment, survivorship, or long-term follow-up.

Our clinicians have expertise in the complex interplay between cancer and mental health. We work closely with oncology teams to do the following:

  • Carefully manage psychiatric medications alongside cancer treatments
  • Monitor and adjust medications based on side effects or changing health needs
  • Consider drug interactions, pain medications, steroids, and other cancer-related factors
  • Support patients coping with stress, fear, grief, meaning, and identity changes

What We Offer

The SOS Psychiatry Clinic provides the following services:

  • Personalized medication support during treatment and early survivorship, with help connecting to community providers for longer-term care if needed
