Construction projects on campus and along the Wasatch Front will make traveling to University of Utah Hospital more difficult this fall. Be sure to plan ahead and know what to expect.

Plan Ahead

  • To get to your appointments at the hospital on time, please plan an extra 15 minutes of travel time.
  • If you’re driving to University of Utah Hospital or main campus from the Foothill area, please leave early.
  • Construction will start on July 3, 2017.

Construction at University of Utah Hospital: What You Need to Know

To better serve our patients, we are redesigning the entrance to University of Utah Hospital. Construction will start on July 3, 2017.

Starting July 3, you can enter the hospital in two different ways:

  1. If you are coming from the valet drop off area, you can access the hospital lobby through our temporary walkway.
  2. If you are coming from the patient parking garage or the valet drop off area, take the elevators in the patient parking garage to Level A. Then, walk to the hospital cafeteria entrance.

Please plan an extra 15 minutes of travel time so you can get to your appointment on time. We will have extra information desk staff on hand to help you get where you need to go.

We expect construction to be finished in November 2017. UTA bus routes will resume their regular service to University of Utah Hospital on November 14, 2017.

Parking & Valet

Starting July 3, our regular valet parking area in front of the hospital will be moved to a different place. Even though our valet parking area will be moved, patients and visitors will still be able to use valet parking.

If you would like to use valet:

  • Please drop off your car on the west side of the hospital entrance (see map below).
  • Our valet staff will return your car to the east side of the curb, close to the helipad terrace (see map below).

Our valet staff will be holding flags to guide you where to go.

If you are parking your own car, please exit North Medical Drive and drive into the parking garage. Our parking ambassadors will help you find empty parking spaces.

UTA Buses & Campus Shuttles

Because the main north entrance to University of Utah Hospital will be closed, UTA buses and campus shuttles will not be dropping off riders at the University Hospital bus stop. Instead, UTA buses will drop riders off at the end of the line on Wasatch Drive. Riders can then take the Wasatch Express shuttle to get to the hospital.

You can learn more about detours for UTA bus routes.

Construction won’t affect Trax lines. If you are walking from the Trax station, use the Moran elevators to get to the Moran bridge and into the hospital.

UTA bus routes have detours while construction is being finished. Find out if your bus route has detours.

Road Construction on Foothill Drive/Parley's Canyon on I-80 & I-215

If you’re traveling to University of Utah Hospital or main campus this summer, please expect delays. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will be fixing bridges along I-80 and I-215 near Foothill Drive and Parley’s Canyon. Starting July 3, some major ramps and lanes will be closed. Some drivers will need to take detours.

If you take Foothill Drive, please expect delays. We recommend that you carpool, use public transportation, or take a different route to get where you need to go.

What Areas on Foothill Will Be Closed?

Starting July 3, the following areas along Foothill will be closed:

  • Foothill Drive to southbound I-215
  • Parley's Way eastbound to the Foothill Drive southbound ramp
  • Parley's Way westbound (under Foothill bridge)
  • I-80 eastbound to northbound Foothill Drive
  • Ramp from I-80 westbound to I-215 westbound
