Scientists from the John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah will present their latest work at the upcoming annual meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the world’s largest and most respected community of eye and vision researchers.

Moran Eye Center Vice-Chair for Clinical and Basic Science Research Paul S. Bernstein, MD, PhD, in 2020, received ARVO’s prestigious Weisenfeld Award in recognition of his scholarly contributions to the clinical practice of ophthalmology. He is slated to give his Weisenfeld Award lecture, titled “Nourishing Better Vision,” on May 3.

Bernstein’s laboratory focuses on the biochemistry and biophysics of nutritional interventions against inherited and acquired ocular disorders such as age-related macular degeneration and macular telangiectasia type 2. Recent breakthroughs have included his work evaluating the sight-saving properties of very-long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids and testing the early diagnostic capabilities of fluorescence lifetime imaging ophthalmoscopy, a new non-invasive retinal imaging technique known as FLIO.
